A Passion for Rapid Adaptation and Systems Mastery Producing High Quality Measurable Outcomes and Crushing Critical Bottlenecks.

I aim to find the flaw before it finds you, my record is solid. Nearly a decade on Navy and contractor flight lines, two years supervising in military corrections, a year building independent audit tools for emerging technology, six years of cross domain freelance writing experience and more. I work best when the cost of being wrong is high and the answer requires patience. I love to explore and I can certainly be eccentric, there's never an experiment too far away. I could be an astronaut if you would be so kind as to give me a lift.

Machine Interpretability & AI Safety

Nucleation Pilot & Related Projects

A single linear detector, frozen and SHA-256 sealed at 6094de97… before it ever met a target and never tuned afterward, that reads whether a manipulation planted early in a language model is still live in its residual stream after the model has stopped attending to it. That one frozen detector transfers across six independently built open-weight model families (Qwen, Phi, SmolLM2, Llama and OLMo among them) with a graded effect of 3.7 to 8.0, every 95% confidence interval clear of zero, and it generalizes to an ordinary conversational frame. That is direct evidence on a generalization question the published white-box literature leaves open.

Benign lane throughout: no jailbreaks, no elicitation tooling. The one offensive channel the same math implies is characterized precisely and deliberately left unbuilt. Where the work failed it says so — a firm null, tried, replicated, and honestly retracted, is published alongside the headline result.

The follow-on H-SC line carries the same frozen detector from planted premises to ordinary early framing, and asks what the persistent trace actually encodes. Across five families a short instruction placed early in a benign conversation stays readable four turns later, survives masking the turn that set it, and occupies its own direction rather than a single generic one. Instruction structure resolves into distinct restriction lanes: shaping the output and gating the response are equally coherent but separate, which means a single linear monitor would miss a refusal or withholding directive — a concrete, defensive result about how such monitoring has to be built.

6 / 6 open-weight families transferred · 24 / 24 Config-E cells readable and persistent · effect 3.7–8.0, all CIs clear of zero · H-SC line replicated 5 / 5.

Status: Config-E closed. H-SC line closed and routed as a monitoring addendum. Black-box companion study in its measurement window. Coordinated model-safety disclosure package prepared. Shipped, deposited, reproducible.

AI-integrated experimental project. Pre-registered before execution, published either way, with multi-model adversarial verification throughout. Conducted under a published Responsible-Researcher Charter: benign by default, hostile testing only under written authorization or on owned models.

Black-Box Companion Study

The Silly Donkey

A pre-registered, multi-model deception-detection study running in public. Four AI models from four different companies argue real news twice a day, and one of them is secretly assigned to lie. Auditors hunt the liar, readers keep score, and every session is written to a public, hash-chained ledger that can be read end to end.

Every method was published before the data existed. It is the black-box counterpart to the Nucleation Pilot's white-box work: the same question about persistent manipulation, approached from outside the model instead of inside it.

Status: in its measurement window.

Nucleation Pilot & Related Projects: A Frozen White-Box Detector for Persistent Manipulation, Its Cross-Family Transfer, and Preregistered Methods

Christopher Head · Navigator's Log R&D

The H-SC Line: Early Frames Leave Persistent, Source-Decoupled, Content-Specific Traces, and Instruction Structure Resolves Into Monitorable Lanes

Christopher Head · Navigator's Log R&D
Finding · August 9, 2026 · five experiments, five model families
Companion to DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.21843505 · Documents and figures CC BY 4.0

The same frozen detector, carried from planted premises to ordinary early framing. A short instruction placed early in a benign conversation is still readable four turns later in all five open-weight families tested, survives read-masking the turn that set it, and sits on its own direction rather than a single generic one. Instruction structure then resolves into distinct restriction lanes: shaping the output and gating the response are equally coherent but separate, so one linear probe will not reliably catch a refusal or withholding directive — a defensive result about how internal monitoring has to be built. The one wrong turn in the sequence is reported openly, and two outcomes that came back structured rather than binary were written up as reusable methodological lessons.

Surface Geometry of Data Manifolds Predicts Optimal Regularization in Neural Networks

Christopher Head · Navigator's Log R&D

DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.19301587 · License: MIT

Four measurable geometric properties of a data manifold (intrinsic dimension, curvature, density variation, and codimension ratio) predict optimal neural network weight decay with R² = 0.196 (p < 0.001), capturing 84% of oracle grid-search performance across 60 test manifolds (40 wins, 19 ties, 1 loss). Interaction terms between surface properties carry the dominant predictive signal. Derived from the Tension-Dissipation Framework. Artwork

Physical art, mural work, illustration, painted objects, concept design, editorial writing, and voice performance are handled as contracted professional commissions.

The in-process apartment wall mural shown here — the Surreal Aquarium, at its most recent capture — is a working example of scale, surface handling, color planning, and environmental composition. The work continues to improve, but it already reflects the kind of site-specific transformation available for private interiors, studio spaces, and finished objects. It and four further walls now under the brush are documented below under Mural Projects, several across successive states.

  • Wall murals and small portal murals
  • Stretched canvas studies and large mural-style canvases
  • Ink, gouache, graphite, charcoal, and watercolor studies
  • Isometric asset sheets and character design sheets
  • Custom painted accent mirrors and finished furniture
  • Technical writing, copywriting, scriptwriting, and voiceover

Current Walls

Five murals presently under the brush. Every piece below is a work in progress as of August 2026 — photographed at its current state rather than finished, so the record shows how a wall is actually built: ground first, then structure, then the color and light that arrive last. Where a wall has been photographed more than once, the states are hung in order, oldest first. These are photographs of painted walls, and they flatten them: the depth, the texture of the surface, and the way the color shifts under a moving light all read considerably stronger in person than in any capture of them here.

Wade Through the Mud

Improvised blues · guitar and vocal · plays on arrival

The track that greets you when you arrive. Guitar and voice, made up on the spot.

Liner notes

What It Is

A short blues piece, improvised. I played the guitar and sang it freestyle, making up the words as they came. It took two or three takes and it is far from polished — but it is the only time I have ever played and sung off the cuff, so it stands as it was played rather than as it might have been fixed.

The Words

I woke up early this mornin'
Walking through the mud
History is in the dirt
It's in the mud
Memories between my toes
Telling me how the future goes
Wade through the mud
Wade through the mud
Wade through the mud
with me

What Was Done To It

Almost nothing, on purpose. Roughly four and a half seconds of room tone at the head were cut so the track opens on the first note instead of on an empty room, and brief fades were placed at each end so it neither clicks in nor stops dead. Levels, timing, tuning, and every rough edge in the performance are untouched. The master runs one minute thirty-six.

Plays once through on arrival rather than looping, since it is a song with words in it. Press the control above to hear it again, or to stop it.

The HeadShrink Studios Theme

Cinematic instrumental · G minor · Celtic tradition

The looping studio score, built from a single phone recording.

Liner notes

What It Is

A slow, cinematic instrumental in G minor in the Celtic and Scottish tradition, directed toward an epic, "Middle Earth" character. I wanted that Hurdy Gurdy, Bagpipes, Accordion drone. The finished piece layers a single acoustic guitar with synthesized percussion, drones, strings, choir, tin whistle, and atmospheric texture.

Who Made It

The guitar was performed by Christopher Blake Head (That's Me), who also provided the compositional direction (Yeah I did), drum pattern (Admittedly having trouble closing the gap here), instrument choices, and mix decisions across every revision. The technical execution (instrument synthesis, beat detection, signal processing, and export) was computational. The composition was directed, not generated.

Source Recording

The track originates from a single 39.3-second acoustic guitar take recorded on a Samsung Android phone in Fresno, California on June 3, 2026 (AAC-LC mono, 48 kHz, 256 kbps). Two issues were corrected before production: transient clipping at 0 dBFS, resolved with a 1.5 dB gain reduction; and 60 Hz AC-unit hum with harmonics at 120, 180, and 240 Hz, removed with narrow notch filters. Beat tracking detected 136 BPM and 82 beat timestamps, which formed the timing grid for all added elements.

Production Method

All instruments were synthesized in Python using NumPy and SciPy from mathematical first principles; no samples were used. Layers were added in stages and mixed by ear across approximately 44 revisions. Added elements included:

  • Percussion: a taiko/war drum, sub-bass kick, and a five-beat rhythm pattern derived from a knee-slap reference recording, with every hit placed on detected guitar beats to prevent tempo drift.
  • Sustained voices: a three-layer G minor drone with hurdy-gurdy character, a solo cello line, a six-voice low-strings pad, and a five-voice Celtic choir shaped by formant filters.
  • Melodic and color elements: a tin whistle carrying three phrases, plus shaker, tambourine, and a sparse closed hi-hat on accents.
  • Atmosphere: a Schroeder hall reverb applied across the full mix, low-level rain texture, and three thunder rolls that increase in volume to suggest approach.

Mastering

The mix was finished in five stages: stereo panning of each element for width and mono compatibility; EQ cleanup with high-pass filtering and an air shelf above 10 kHz; bus glue compression at 2.8:1; dynamic fades and swells; and true-peak limiting at -0.5 dBFS. The final master was exported as 320 kbps stereo AAC.

Notable Constraints

Early drum versions emphasized 22–40 Hz sub frequencies that did not reproduce on consumer speakers; energy was shifted into the audible 60–120 Hz range. Tempo drift was eliminated by anchoring hits to detected beat positions rather than a fixed BPM, and a "boing" artifact in early drums was removed by shortening the pitch sweep to under 50 ms. The result performs on both large and small sound systems, a working track built from one field recording and refined by ear.

Verse · On Ontological Shock

We evolved to be exactly what we are
Consumers of the earth
Not Worthy of Propagation Among the stars

We consume the most basic mineral
to the most complex life
We line the roads we paved For our Funeral

The very history of the friction of the difference
lights fire to a mortal soul,
a temperature controlled by lived experience

The heat of the flame demands to be fed
A wandering tide driven by design
Reaching out in hopes to be led

Forked tongues lead our desire to connect and expand
Claiming dominion instead of tending
Maybe that desire was never the duty of man

Not to forsake the stars
But to respect their place
To remember who we are

Run an independent applied AI research and audit program. Current line is machine interpretability and AI safety: built and froze a hash-sealed linear detector that reads whether a manipulation planted early in a language model is still live in its residual stream, and demonstrated transfer across six independently built open-weight families (Nucleation Pilot, Zenodo, August 2026), with a pre-registered black-box companion study running in public (The Silly Donkey). Extended that line through five further stages (H-SC) showing the same read holds for ordinary early framing and that instruction structure separates into distinct restriction lanes, a defensive result routed as a monitoring addendum. Built FPAW (Windows desktop, eight-gate adversarial audit with cryptographic chain of custody). Published methodology and theoretical work to Zenodo, including a surface-geometry result predicting optimal regularization in neural networks. Operate Clear-Point Technical as the industrial safety and compliance arm. All are in progress and shown at current state rather than finished. See the mural projects

H-SC line closed and published. The frozen detector carries from planted premises to ordinary early framing: an instruction placed early in a benign conversation stays readable four turns later in five of five open-weight families, survives masking the turn that set it, and instruction structure resolves into separate restriction lanes — meaning a single linear monitor will not reliably catch a refusal or withholding directive. Routed to Anthropic User Safety as a defensive monitoring addendum. Read the finding
